SA: Asylum seekers to appear in court
About 30 asylum seekers are expected to appear in court today, charged with escapingfrom the Woomera Detention Centre over Easter.
Federal police say the detainees will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court, chargedunder the Immigration Act.
The 30 were among 50 who allegedly fled the outback South Australian facility afterprotesters broke through fences and aided their escape on Friday.
Authorities say 14 remain at large, and say they're worried about their safety in thehot outback conditions.
Some protesters are also expected to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court overthe coming weeks, charged with various public disorder offences.
Yesterday the protesters turned their attention to the new Baxter Detention Centre,under construction near Port Augusta.
About 300 ignored a police road block to approach the unoccupied facility, but policesay no arrests were made.
Meanwhile the South Australian government is believed to be preparing a bill for thefederal government to cover the cost of sending extra police to Woomera over the holidayperiod.
